Hmmm... often spoken about but I cant see the practicality of a powered spanner - I presume like a drill type thing?

Downside would be size, weight and ability to whip in/out of tool belt I would guess? :?

Hi Dog, Firstly...thanks for your reply...Iv been working on the Scaffnaut Project since 1997...a powered spanner has many advantages...H.S.Q.E.

Health...Reduction in repedative strain injury

Safety...Reduces risk from falls.ie,scaff completes task quicker,reduces risk factor.

Quality...This Is the advantage for those with fiscal considerations...
The spanner has a torque setting provision,this deploy the fitting too the tube at the manufacturers recommendations...this in turn will reduce the risk of partial or indeed catastrophic collapse...assuring the integraty of the stucture...Should reduce the liability insurance..(look out loyds)

Environment...Clean power... the transmigration of kinitic power is captured
,and liberated on demand...

Hi Dog, a drill type thing?,yes its akin to a drill right enough...however,the fundimental desing of the powerd spanner dose not differe greatly from the conventional spanner,this provision would allow the existing manufacturers of spanners to re-jig as required.

The weight, of the spanner was a big consideration in the early years, however, in the light of sientific and mechanical engeneering developements to-date,the weight factor has droped...source of information re:sientific+mech engineering...Stephane Getty N.A.S.A. she tells me N.A.S.A. working on similar type project...for construction of super structure of fully encapsulated habitates.

I am only one man and my resorces are limited,however, I prassed ganged a mate,he is a desing engineer works for an oil company.hes been working on solid modeling drawings.I could try and send some illustrations if you like?

Hi Dog,the next time you put on your belt and surf the steel (as you konw) your body movements will enduce the spanner to undulate in a pendulim type motion...it is this motion that must be harnessed,captured and stowed within a coralation of planatery gear trains...The quest, is to capture sufficient energy to deliver between > 40Nm - 80Nm > of torque value.

I can't really see the advantages of such a tool, but all this scientific gobldey gook is way over my head. How much would such a tool cost & would it really make the job any quicker! What would happen If your batteries run out 10 lifts up or does constant movement re-charge them at the same time? If not could the spanner be used in a conventional way too..

Hi Govnor, Firstly, sorry I had to cut short my reply to your recent comments.I was called away to a job...

Regarding speed of use...I have had endless debaites with union reps and concerned Scaffolders.They raise a valid point. i.e. speed could lead to increased productivity= bigger profit for bosses= bosses would expect more from the scaffolder, with little or no increaseof remuneration for the Scaffolder. However, it is the Scaffolder that dictaites the tempo, he will commission a scaffold when HE is ready to do so.

The advantage of speed for me would be, i.e. ...erecting a hanger to the under deck of an offshore instulation...

as soon as I go over the side...surf the dropper and arrive at the T peice...the risk of me going for a salt water test has increased...The longer I am danggeling by the famaily jewels the more likelyhood of the risk being reolised.

I like to get in amoungest it...a rapid strike... the back to the bear pit for lemonade and buns... I would wellcome anything that would aid a rapid erection LOL...NO viagra jokes boys please...
