We have recently started using BONE transoms as a replacement for traditional putlog/transoms. Why? If you don't know... read on...
EASYFIX (otherwise known as Readylock or it's nickname - Bones) is a transom tube which is fabricated with 4 fittings installed on the actual tube itself. This produces a rigid unit, locking the standards and ledgers square. This, arguably, speeds up scaffold erection. Much the same as Cuplok, Easyfix pre-coupled transoms allow you to quickly erect 5 board wide "system" style scaffold but using traditional tube and fitting.
Features of Easyfix
Fast to erect - only 4 bolts to be tightened per unit against 8 with conventional scaffolding.
Losses reduced - no loose fittings
Lift heights and bay widths infinitely variable to suit building requirements.
Standards are automatically plumbed.
Great strength of the corner joint eliminates need for ledger bracing.
Optional inside board
Technical Specification
Distance between centres of standard - 1.27m.
Transom tube is a standard scaffold tube.
Standard scaffolding spanner will fit both nut on standard clamp and bold on ledger fixing.
Weight - 9kg.
Loading
Easyfix is designed to support a bricklayers scaffold loading of 3kN/sq.m when used with the normal 1.8m bays. Larger bays can be used for lower loadings and more than one working platform is permissible - see BS5973
Maintenance
All easyfix units (and ancillary tube & fittings) must be inspected before use to ensure they are fit for re-use. Any components with cracked welds or bent tubes should be discarded and flaps and threads checked and lubricated if necessary to secure free running. Easyfix transoms are extremely rugged components but if they get damaged by abuse it is likely that the standards will be out of alignment. These should not be used as they will distort the scaffold and may reduce the loading capacity.
General
Ledger Bracing Due to the exceptionally rigid corner joint Easyfix can be erected up to 30m high without the need for ledger bracing. The omission of ledger bracing gives free access along the working platform when it occurs at intermediate levels Face Bracing As with normal tube and fittings face braces are required at intervals of not more than 30m. Ties must be provided as required by BS5973 (a minimum of one every 40sq.m.)
